The controlled construction and mechanism understanding of surface molecular structures are of great significance for advancing the comprehension of intermolecular interactions, developing novel surface chemistry strategies, and enabling the fabrication of functional materials.
This presentation summarizes recent research on molecular self-assembly and reactions on various substrates, including metal surfaces and hBN nanomeshes. We focus on the transition from isolated monomers to dimers and ordered arrays, highlighting key strategies for achieving selective dimer formation and higher-order structures. We obtain high selectivity in dimer construction and elucidate the underlying physical mechanisms. By employing high-resolution characterization techniques such as scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and non-contact atomic force microscopy (nc-AFM), we visualize reaction intermediates and interfacial bonding configurations.
These findings offer new insights into the chemical pathways of surface-confined dimerization and polymerization processes and provide a foundation for the precise engineering of surface molecular architectures with tailored chirality, functionality, or electronic properties through rational design of molecular precursors and substrate selection.
