The seminar will cover a range of methods for in situ optical probing of thin film electronic devices. The first part will focus on plasmonic systems, where a metallic nanoparticle is used at the same time as an electrode in a molecular junction, and as a local probe to amplify interaction with molecules for in situ Raman spectroscopy. These nanoparticle junctions found applications as fast optical detectors and emission enhancers in quantum dot devices. The second part will focus on field-effect transistors fabricated with thin films of organic semiconductors. Real time optical probing of these transistors allows to explore the mechanisms of charge trapping that occur within the transistor channel, and directly observe their impact on transistor performance. Some broader applications of organic transistors as biosensors and photodetectors will also be discussed.
