The cage compounds are intermetallics crystallizing with the structures of clathrates, filled skutterudites, Remeika- and Chevrel-types. Some materials of these groups have recently been shown to reveal a slight structural distortion of classical arrangements, thus indicating possible suppression of the “rattling” motion and hinting towards “pseudo-cage” nature of these compounds.
In our works we are trying analyze influence of structural changes on the superconducting mechanisms in the Remeika-like motifs. Starting with the Yb3Rh4Sn13 prototype compound [1], we will take a look at concentration induced structural changes in Y3+xRh4Ge13-x [2], further analyze multiple superconducting transitions in Yb3+xCo4Sn13-x [3] and finally consider R5Rh6Sn18 (R = Sc, Y) [4-6].
