From July 14th to 18th, 2025, the Institute of Physics in Zagreb is hosting the WavemiX2025 – NEXT Annual Meeting, bringing together leading international researchers in the field of nonlinear EUV and X-ray spectroscopy and imaging. The conference is organized within the framework of the COST Action NEXT (CA22148), which connects European and international research groups dedicated to advancing state-of-the-art spectroscopic techniques based on Free Electron Lasers (FELs) and laboratory High Harmonic Generation (HHG) sources.
More than a century after the discovery of X-rays, the scientific community now uses spatially and temporally coherent X-ray pulses to study the structure and dynamic evolution of atoms, molecules, and advanced materials — with the added promise of quantum control of X-ray properties and the development of revolutionary spectroscopic and imaging methods.
The event was officially opened by Dr. Osor Barišić, Director of the Institute of Physics, and Dr. Damir Aumiler, Head of the Centre for Advanced Laser Techniques (CALT) and one of the local hosts of the meeting.
Conference Highlights:
- Participants from 15 countries
- Keynote invited lectures by internationally recognized researchers from top universities and FEL/synchrotron facilities ((Berkeley, University College London, SLAC – Stanford, ETH, Stanford, European XFEL, Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste…)
- Two special lectures open to the broader scientific community:
- “Scientific integrity”, Dr. rer. nat. habil. Johannes Gierschner
- How to prepare a high IF paper, Dr. Jacopo Fregoni (Springer NATURE)
- Strong emphasis on the inclusion of young scientists, women researchers, and participants from Inclusiveness Target Countries (ITCs).
- Local organizers: Dr. Barbara Ressel (University of Nova Gorica) and Dr. Goran Zgrablić (Institute of Physics).
