We are proud to announce that our Laboratory for Time and Frequency, part of the Center for Advanced Laser Techniques (CALT), has officially received its accreditation certificate for calibrations in the field of time and frequency.
This step builds upon the Laboratory’s established participation, as one of eighty such laboratories worldwide, in defining Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Consequently, we have become the first laboratory in Croatia to maintain and disseminate the national realization of UTC (NTP server: time.ifs.hr) and to offer calibration services using a primary standard as a reference.
Why is this important?
The Institute of Physics now offers calibration services to other calibration laboratories that use secondary time and frequency standards, and which previously had to look for these services in neighboring countries.
The national (local) realization of UTC is of paramount importance as it provides fundamental infrastructure support in key sectors such as telecommunications, power systems, transport, and defense, all of which rely on satellite signals for time synchronization.
The laboratory’s reliability is now officially confirmed by the accreditation document.
